Tong was the one who sacrifices for his father.īuwaya was the first animal on land that he met. Tong was a metaphor of an ideal yet traditional Filipino youth who were typically referred to as “future breadwinner” who finds means for the family. He was tasked by her mother to get the “puso ng saging” which they believed was the only cure to his father’s illness. Unfortunately his father was suffering from a serious illness that pushed Tong to a journey which made the whole story. He was the youngest son of the queen and king of the deep sea- thriving crabs. The main character in the story was Tong. This analysis will focus on how the characters represent certain types of Filipinos who were presented humorously yet candidly in the novel. It was another phenomenal novel by Bob Ong who was consistent in writing society in his novels.
